Zoom Webinar Format

This training is jointly-provided by the American Psychiatric Association, Washington State Psychiatric Association, and Washington State Council of  Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

The WSPA and WSCCAP would like to invite you to join us for an educational session focused on gender-affirming care. We will be learning from several experts in this area, and from across the country. The focus for this session will be on improving participants' understanding of the current language of gender, including gender diversity; understanding current models for gender-affirming healthcare, including medically assisted gender affirmation; and developing a good understanding of the role psychiatrists have in working with people who are transgender/non-binary. Psychiatrists and other practitioners attending this session are asked to come with an open attitude towards examining our own biases when working with people across the gender spectrum.

Many psychiatrists were trained before the current understanding or importance of providing gender-affirming care to all people was emphasized in residency training programs, including fellowship. The importance of providing care to diverse populations is now expected. Many medical students and residents may have a better understanding of gender and gender-affirming care that more senior psychiatrists. This session aims to close the gap in these areas.
